Morocco: Global owner-operator The Ascott Limited has expanded across North Africa with four Citadines aparthotels alongside one Ascott and one Unlimited Collection property in Morocco.
In Casablanca, Ascott recently opened Citadines Almaz. The 61-unit aparthotel catering to both short- and long-stay guests features a gym, restaurant, and meeting facilities. Later this year in Q3, Citadines Racine is due to open offering 123 units.
Two more properties, Citadines Connect Belvedere Casablanca (60 units) and Citadines Bab Tangier (130 units) are due to open in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
In Marrakech, the serviced residence Ascott Hivernage (100 units) is due to launch in Q4 2026, around the same time that The Unlimited Collection Marrakech, a 90-room lifestyle hotel, is also scheduled to open.
Vincent Miccolis, managing director for the Middle East, Africa and Turkey at Ascott, said: “We are excited to deepen our presence in North Africa and specifically Morocco, a country that is witnessing remarkable growth and holds immense potential. We are seeing an increasing need for serviced apartments and lifestyle hotels that aligns seamlessly with Ascott’s expertise in flexible long- and short-stay accommodation solutions.
“The opening of Citadines Almaz Casablanca and the signing of Citadines Bab Tangier mark key milestones in our ambitious growth strategy as we continue to provide exceptional guest experiences across this dynamic region,” he added.
Ascott said that capitalising on Morocco’s growth as a “premier travel hotspot” – referencing its 17 million visitors in 2024 and the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup – as a primary driver for “continued investment” and its long-term vision for North Africa.
Currently, Ascott operates six properties totalling more than 600 rooms in North Africa – a 30 per cent increase from 2023.
