UK: OakNorth has provided a £3.6 million loan to boutique property developer Countrylarge to fund the development of an aparthotel in Harrogate’s town centre.

Countrylarge has delivered over £250 million in developments and maintains a secured delivery pipeline of around £200 million gross development value (GDV).

The funding will support the development of a 17-key, 25-bedroom aparthotel operated by Beyond Aparthotels. It is located opposite the Victoria Shopping Centre in Harrogate and will target both leisure and business travellers.

Timothy Smith, managing director of Countrylarge, said: “This scheme represents a unique opportunity to deliver something new to Harrogate, a premium aparthotel in a town with high visitor demand but limited modern accommodation. The location is outstanding, and OakNorth’s support has been fantastic.”

James Fry, founder of Beyond Aparthotels, said: “We are delighted to operate this prime site, offering generously sized rooms from studios to three-bedroom units with low impact and wellness-focused standards.”

James Espley, senior director of property finance at OakNorth, said: “Countrylarge has an impressive track record, and the aparthotel sector shows strong growth potential. We are excited to see this project come to life and look forward to supporting more of Countrylarge’s developments.”

The project is expected to be completed by Q2 2026.
