Ireland: Local businessman Michael Ryan has submitted plans to Waterford City & County Council to demolish Bridge House in Dungarvan and construct an 85-room hotel and aparthotel.
Bridge House, an office block located at the junction of Davitt’s Quay and Walsh Street, was previously occupied by Glanbia. It has sat vacant since the 1990s.
The application seeks permission to demolish the three-storey Bridge House and construct a seven-storey hotel and aparthotel. The project would include 42 hotel rooms, 42 aparthotel rooms, and one penthouse suite.
Amenities on the ground floor feature two function halls, a lobby/reception area, a cafe/bar open to the public, and indoor and outdoor seating areas.
As part of the proposed plans, the car park would be reconfigured to accommodate 48 spaces including three disabled bays as well as spaces for 26 bicycles. A gated public walkway running alongside the function rooms would also connect two streets.
Additional features include solar PV cells on the roof and a green wall.
Waterford City & County Council are expected to make a decision on the application by 24 January 2024. Previously in 2021, the council refused plans by Ryan for a nine-storey, 65-bed boutique hotel at the site.
Ryan is the owner of Al Eile farm in Kilgobnet. He bought and restored the 19th century former bank building adjacent to Bridge House in 2017 and converted it into a bar and restaurant.
