UK: Walker & Williams has opened Hotel Chester, a £4.6 million aparthotel redevelopment project designed by the Frank Whittle Partnership.
Situated on Newgate Street in the city centre, the property features 12 styled and themed apartments.
Preston-based FWP has led the redevelopment of the 1780s building which was was previously used as offices and has been vacant for around 15 years. Development work has taken 18 months to complete.
Each apartment in the scheme has a theme including one made up of two large living spaces connected by a floating bridge and a treehouse family apartment.
FWP has previously worked for Walker & Williams on projects including the Winckley Square Hotel in Preston. The architect is also working on Walker & Williams’ project in Ormskirk involving the conversion of a former magistrates’ court into a 23-key aparthotel, as well as a 52-bedroom aparthotel near Chester raceourse.
Brent Clayton, partner at FWP, said: “We have worked closely with Walker & Williams to produce something in Chester that is very, very special. It’s great to see the completed transformation of an historic building and the hotel open for business. We’ve built up a good relationship with the client and we understand their vision and ethos. It is about creating a real sense of luxury. We’ve seen increasing interest from the hospitality and leisure sectors, as the industry looks to open up and respond to what is likely to be an ongoing trend towards domestic holidays.”
