UK: A restaurant in Coventry city centre is to be diminished and an 18-key serviced apartment block built in its place.
Ristorante Etna shut its doors after serving Italian food for more than 35 years.
The Hertford Street restaurant will be demolished after a planning application was approved, making way for a four to five storey building with 18 one-bedroom serviced apartments. Also included in the plans is the possibility for retail or office space.
A design and access statement submitted with the application said: “The accommodation would be managed off-site with all check-in and check-out, servicing of rooms, laundry, cleaning of rooms and communal areas. The proposed building is a modern contemporary block which had been designed to stand out and help lift the character of the immediate shopping precinct, setting the standard for new development that is helping shape Coventry city centre.”</p
