UK: A developer has submitted fresh plans to create a new aparthotel in Market Harborough town centre.
The site at 54 St Marys Road is currently used as a house of multiple occupation (HMO) but developer Kevin Jones, formerly of Tykes Developments, has submitted plans for an aparthotel with a restaurant.
The application has been lodged just months after an appeal to overturn a previous refusal for a similar project was dismissed by the Planning Inspectorate. It follows a similar scheme for a 14-room aparthotel and restaurant, which was submitted in December 2014 and refused by Harborough District Council in August 2015.
An appeal contesting the decision was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate and following a site visit in June 2016, the call was dismissed due to the development’s potential impact on the market Harborough Conservation Area and its streetscene.
Jones was also behind plans to develop a mixed-use building on the site which were lodged six years ago. The application proposed a restaurant, gym and retail space at ground floor level with hotel accommodation above.
It was refused in June 2010 and decision was also subject to an appeal, which was dismissed in 2011.</p
