UK: Dream Apartments MD Tom Smyth has donated more than £1,000 worth of toys to the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast.

Smyth has also pledged to donate and raise much-needed funds to the charity in the coming year. The Children’s Cancer Unity Charity rely solely on donations from the public and corporate organisations and Smyth has appealed for local government and other businesses to help him in his pledge.

“As a father of two, I wanted to give something back and to hopefully bring a little joy to these children this Christmas,” he said. “We take so much for granted, including our health. To be able to help in this small way is very humbling.

“When we visited the Children’s Cancer unit to deliver the toys, I was shocked to learn that this fantastic charity don’t get any funding from local government, they rely solely on donations. I would like to appeal to our local decision makers and those in power to take notice of the work of these fantastic people who work so hard on behalf of these children and their families who are experiencing the hardest time of their lives and to make urgent money available. I have made it my pledge for 2019 and beyond to work alongside the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity to help put them on the radar of our local MLAs and MPs. I will also be appealing to other businesses to help raise money for this charity,” said Smyth.

The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity exists solely to support the work of the Children’s Cancer and Haematology Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and their families.

The toys donated by Dream Apartments are being distributed to children who are spending the Christmas period in hospital whilst fighting cancer.

Jacqueline Wilkinson, administrator of the charity, said: “Spending time in hospital at Christmas time is never easy, for both the children and their families, but donations like this do help bring joy to the children on such a special day. We at the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity appreciate all the support we can get to ensure we offer the highest quality of care to our young patients.”
