The apartments feature handmade furniture and furnishings, oak flooring, Italian tiling and exposed stone walls, home entertainment systems and a 24-hour concierge service.
The apartments will be officially launched in 2014 but have been welcoming guests since July. Its staff of 19 have seen more than 8,000 guests through the doors over the three months to September 2013, with average occupancy levels of more than 90 per cent.
Julie Grieve, CEO of Edinburgh’s Old Town Chambers, said: “Our aim is to do things differently and to achieve the 5 star AA rating so soon after opening is a real endorsement of our efforts. The very fabric of our building – part historic, part modern – is different, giving a special blend of living on a heritage site, but with every modern comfort. The apartments themselves offer the luxury of a top hotel alongside the independence of having your own ‘home’ in the centre of the city – with, of course, a concierge on hand to find restaurants, taxis, travel guides or just recommend the best place to shop. We are very proud of what we are creating at the Chambers and delighted with the 5 star Self Catering AA rating.”
The 37 apartments comprise of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units, as well a 15th century townhouse and a penthouse.
