UK: The 126-room Aparthotel Adagio Liverpool City Centre could be expanded to occupy two more floors, under proposals from the property’s owner.
Owner Augur Group has lodged an application to change the use of 2,600 square feet of vacant retail space on the ground and mezzanine floors of the seven-storey Grade II-listed former Lewis’s Building in Liverpool city centre, in order to provide additional aparthotel units.
Adagio Liverpool currently occupies space on the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the 400,000 square foot building, but it would exit the space its holds on the first floor under the proposals designed by Colman Architects.
A refurbished ground floor and mezzanine level would accommodate a relocated reception and breakfast area, while revised internal layouts on the fifth floor would provide two additional meeting rooms, with the building’s heritage features retained.
The Lewis’s Building is also home to a Pure Gym, Post Office and an office scheme called The Department.
Augur Liverpool said in a statement accompanying the application to Liverpool City Council: “The proposals are part of the long-term strategy to sensitively restore the grade II-listed Lewis’s Building and deliver a meaningful mix of uses. The scheme will achieve an efficient use of existing floorspace, while responding to a need to better satisfy modern requirements and expectations of hotel operators.”
Augur acquired the property in 2017, along with the surrounding land to make up a five-acre mixed-use scheme now under development, called The Circus.
Once complete, The Circus is planned to provide 275,000 square feet of retail and leisure space over five floors.</p
