UK: Revised plans for a hotel in Hull to have an extension with serviced apartments have been submitted after the council refused the original application based on concerns about parking.

Townglow Ltd has put in new plans for a seven storey extension for Hull’s Cornmill Hotel with 22 serviced apartments (instead of 19 in the original application) and space for 28 cars to park.

The report for Townglow Ltd noted that the current hotel needed the apartments as the pandemic had changed the way people stayed.

In a report by planning consultant Maria Ferguson she said: “The proposal is to provide additional accommodation in the form of apartments. Growth in aparthotels and serviced apartments has outpaced other sectors of the UK’s hospitality accommodation market.

“The type of accommodation being offered by the serviced apartment sector is evolving and whilst in the past has been aimed at single travellers on long stays, it is now seeking to appeal to a broader customer base and is becoming increasing popular for short stays offering more of a ‘home-from-home’ experience.”

The property dates to 1838 and was originally an engine house for the adjoining Holderness Corn Mill, which has since been demolished.
