US: The 120-key Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol – University has opened in Tallahassee’s Railroad Square Art District.

Developed by Mountain Shore Properties (MSP) and managed by Olympia Hotel Management, the property is targeting the extended-stay market in Florida’s state capital.

The five-storey new-build hotel has 120 guest rooms, 77 of which feature fully equipped kitchens; a large outdoor area with bar service, flexible meeting and event space; a fitness centre and an outdoor pool.

MSP previously developed and opened Hampton Inn & Suites Tallahassee Capitol – University back in 2018, which is also managed by OHM.

John Schultzel, Olympia Hotel Management’s chief growth officer, said: “Extended stay properties have been strong during Covid 19. The occupancy numbers at our nearby Hampton property have been solid and Tallahassee is a unique destination. There is government demand, two universities with students who really want to be back on campus now, as well as a great downtown anchored by Railroad Square. It was important to open this new property in the first quarter with an eye to securing bookings for the third quarter and beyond.

“We think the demand for travel in the back half of 2021 is going to be extremely strong,” said Stephen Wendell, CEO of Mountain Shore Properties. “The underlying demand generators pre-Covid19 still exist and show no signs of stopping. The fact is that some aspects of business travel can’t be done virtually. It is my belief and hope that we are going to be in a far different world come summer.”
