UK: Westmorland and Furness Council has approved plans for property development and investment business Cameron Investment Group to convert Lonsdale House Hotel in Ulverston into an aparthotel.

Located at 1 Daltongate, Ulverston, the Grade II-listed Lonsdale House Hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment.

In 2021, planning permission was granted for the former hotel to be repurposed into residential and serviced apartments. Work never commenced.

In 2023, planning permission was again granted for the change of use from C1 to C2 (supported living accommodation). Work on the property began in line with this consent, including alterations to the internal layout of the building.

Recent planning documents, which applied for a certificate of lawfulness for use of the site as an aparthotel, state: “The works involve the internal reconfiguration of the building to create 13 suites. The property will remain in single ownership [with] suites being available to book at a nightly rate.

“In addition, the gardens and lower-ground floor of the building will be used for purposes ancillary to the hotel use. This could include use as a wedding venue or event space – such uses would only take place in connection with the occupancy of the suites in the aparthotel.”

Craig & Meyer Architects alongside chartered town planners Steven Abbott Associates LLP submitted the planning application.

Permission was granted by the council on 15 July 2024.
