UK: The 279-key Locke aparthotel in London’s Canary Wharf will be built using modular construction techniques.

Canary Wharf Contractors is delivering the main build of the 20-storey building after a £74 million development loan was secured by Canary Wharf Group and hospitality group edyn.

The steel-framed modules are being designed and manufactured at Caledonian’s 40 acre manufacturing facility in Newark, Nottinghamshire. The project involves building 17 floors of volumetric modular serviced apartments over a retail/amenity space in the lower podium levels.

Two full-height concrete cores will provide structural stability and the scheme will be crowned with a rooftop restaurant providing a unique dining experience with prime views over London City.

An “open and collaborative approach between Canary Wharf Group, edyn, Caledonian and design partners HTA and Holloway Li” has maximised levels of offsite completion, significantly reducing onsite resource and programme.

The 20-storey Locke aparthotel is to be built at One Charter Street on Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf’s new mixed-use district.
