China: Thailand’s Onyx Hospitality Group has increased its Chinese portfolio to 18 properties with the signing of management contracts for properties in Shanghai and Xiamen.
The Shama Caojiadu Shanghai is close to the Jing’an area of Shanghai and will become the serviced apartment brand’s fifth location in the city. Opening in 2017, it will feature 168 units, including studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, plus a breakfast area, fitness centre, lounge and children’s area.
The second new project, Ozo Shishi Xiamen, is a beachfront hotel that will feature 213 rooms, a restaurant, swimming pool with pool bar, a fitness centre, meeting room and a “grab and go” F&B area. This project is currently under construction and scheduled to open in 2017.
“This announcement anchors our growth in the mainland China market whilst supporting our long-term strategy to become a leading hospitality provider in Asia,” said Simon Dell, Onyx’s vice president & area general manager for North Asia. “As hospitality specialists, our role is to select the right brands for the right locations and look for a potential market for our upscale hotel, resort and residence brands. We look forward to growing our partnership with more key players in the future.”
Onyx said its Chinese strategy involved targeting “prime cities such as Xiamen and Shenzhen”.
