UK: Developer Yu Group has submitted a planning application for an apartment and aparthotel project near St James’ Park in Newcastle.
Two applications have been submitted for the site of the former LTH warehouse on Pitt Street. The larger of the two is a seven-storey, 78-apartment building dubbed Wellington House. This would cover 32,680 square feet, with SimpsonHaugh appointed to design the site.
The second element of the wider masterplan is a nine-storey 63-unit aparthotel comprising 63 across a 25,112 square foot footprint.
A planning statement submitted to Newcastle City Council reads: “There has been limited new purpose-built aparthotel accommodation in recent years within Newcastle city centre. The existing offer of serviced apartments within the city centre comprises mainly of much larger multiple-bedroom apartments. The Pitt street proposals seek to provide accommodation that meets the growing market needs of people who wish to visit Newcastle for either business or leisure who want a convenient city centre location but do not want to stay in a traditional hotel accommodation. It is envisaged that with the growth of the conference facilities, in particular those associated with Science Central, will potentially further increase the demand for this type of temporary accommodation.”</p
