US: Sage Hospitality Group has announced its independent extended-stay hotel Catbird, located in Denver, with plans to replicate the concept in other markets.

Catbird features 165 guest rooms with a patent-pending design, lofted beds, custom-built multi-functional furniture and entertainment amenities, including 4K Ultra HD projectors.

Each will come with full kitchens equipped with cooking essentials such as crockery and spices. On every guest floor thee will be complimentary laundry services as well as water filling stations.

DLR Group oversaw the guest room design, and Shears Adkins Rockmore Architects led the entire project.

The hotel encompasses a 2,500 square foot, four-bedroom home originally built in 1890. Preserved as part of the hotel development, it will be used as a holiday home for families and groups and for social events.

In the Catbird Playroom, there’s a gear locker with bikes, skateboards, scooters, cameras and more for guests to borrow during their stay. Package delivery lockers and a guest storage area is available, as well as a fitness centre and a dog run for pets.

On the rooftop at The Red Barber, the bar doubles up as an event deck and amphitheater for live music. The space is complete with a lawn for outdoor games and hot tubs for Catbird hotel guests.

The design of The Red Barber, along with the hotel’s interiors and public spaces, has been led by Swan Dive Design Studio.

President and CEO of Sage Hospitality Group, Walter Isenberg, said: “We are thrilled to introduce Catbird to the world, which we believe to be our most innovative and out-of-the-box project yet. At every level of our organisation, the Sage team has worked tirelessly to bring this concept to life, and I believe Catbird is truly a differentiator for Sage and for the industry. There is no other hotel that offers the guest experience Catbird offers, and we look forward to bringing the concept to other key markets in the future.”

Each of Sage’s four companies – Sage Studio, Sage Hotel Management, Sage Restaurant Concepts and Sage Investments – had a role to play in developing the property.

Catbird will join Sage Hotel Management’s portfolio of 12 independent hotels under the Sage Independent Hotel Collection. Other properties include The Rally Hotel at McGregor Square (Denver),  Hotel Commonwealth (Boston), Hutton Hotel (Nashville) and Hotel Landing (Wayzata, Minnesota).

President and COO of Sage Hotel Management, Daniel del Olmo, said: “Our team thrives when operating hotels that focus on creating a truly unique guest experience, and Catbird is exactly that. An incredible amount of work went into bringing this hotel and its outlets to life. Now begins the undertaking of operating this stunning asset in such a way that not only delivers an exceptional guest experience but exceeds our partners’ business goals and expectations and sets the stage for future developments in desirable markets nationwide. We have worked diligently, and will continue to do so, to ensure that this hotel opens strong and continues to own the upswing as the economy recovers and travellers return to Denver.”

Sage is a co-owner of Catbird in conjunction with Walnut Development Partners and EXDO Development Group.
