UK: The industry definitions charter created by Serviced Apartment News and HVS has welcomed a wave of new signatories in advance of the 2015 Serviced Apartment Summit.
The charter is the result of the UK sector’s first moves to introduce clear definitions to an industry which has huge potential but is still regarded as fragmented, with poor consumer and investor awareness. It was unveiled at the Serviced Apartment Summit 2014.
Ahead of the 2015 Summit, the document is starting to gain recognition across the Atlantic, with US operators Churchill Living and Furnished Quarters among the latest to join the existing UK and international names.
In an indication of a growing sense of identity in the UK industry, both the British Hospitality Association and the Association of Serviced Apartment Providers have also signed up to the charter.
Piers Brown, CEO of International Hospitality Media – the publisher of Serviced Apartment News – said: “The UK serviced apartment sector has come a long way in the last couple of years. It is great to see operators and industry bodies such as the BHA and ASAP all co-operating and pulling in the same direction. We are also delighted to welcome Furnished Quarters and Churchill Living as signatories, and are pleased to see the definition document gaining traction in the US.”
