UK: Work has started on a 71-unit aparthotel on Southampton’s Queens Terrace.
The Room 2 aparthotel, by developer and operator Lamington, will comprise 71 studios, each featuring a kitchen, work table, rainfall shower, free wifi, a screen mirroring TV, king-sized beds, air conditioning and mezzanine top decks for flexible stays accommodating families, children and sharers.
A public area will offer a flexible ground floor, designed as a space to work, meet and relax, along with a grab and go coffee bar.
Robert Godwin, managing director of Lamington Group, which also operates 70 serviced apartments across west London, said: “I know the city really well and thought it would be a fantastic idea to bring this type of accommodation to Southampton where there is a big need for high quality accommodation in the city. We’re really excited to bring to Southampton what we feel is the first truly stylish hotel space, taking the best of the emerging design hotel sector, and designing memorable guest experiences tailored to both both long and short stays.”
Room 2’s concept is designed by Project Orange, a Shoreditch-based architectural firm. The aparthotel is due to be completed by March 2018, with a further site planned to open in Chiswick in London next year.</p
