UK: Plans to repurpose the upper floors of a prominent building in York city centre into an aparthotel have been given the green light.

Proposals for 4-6 Parliament Street were put forward by York property companies Grantside and North Star, following their acquisition of the building last year.

Their plans also include improvements and a reconfiguration of the ground and basement levels of the building, which is currently occupied by The Vintage Store.

York-based Architects Vincent & Brown designed the remodelling of the 15,530 square foot building which will now include separate entrances for the retail and accommodation elements. The upper floors will be converted into an aparthotel, as well as a new core for circulation and external amenity space.

Steve Davis, CEO of Grantside, said: “This approval will enable us to provide a new sustainable long-term future for this fantastic building, as well as creating high-quality visitor accommodation in this great location. For many years the upper floors have been underused and these plans will maximise the benefits this important street in the heart of York.”

Grantside was established in 1993 and has delivered more than £750 million worth of real estate across the UK.
