UK: Property development and investment firm JSM Company Group has submitted plans to Liverpool City Council to create 15 serviced apartments above Epstein Theatre.

The Grade II-listed venue on Hanover Street, which opened in 1913, was shut in 2023 after Liverpool City Council said it could no longer provide financial support.

It has now been leased by JSM Company Group Ltd to the Theatrical Times Ltd. Test events will be held over spring and summer ahead of a full autumn programme of shows to be launched on 19 September.

JSM, which is now responsible for Hanover House, is currently seeking planning permission for further works within the building, including the development of a 15-bed aparthotel.

Plans include the installation of four new circular windows on the sixth floor of the Hanover Street façade, as well as an extension to the rear of the building and repairs to the fifth floor foyer.

According to the design and access statement, the project will “ bring life back into a now empty shell” offering a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments, providing “luxury accommodation for couples, families and groups within the city centre”.

JSM aims to “contribute to the identified regeneration programmes of the area and reduce the worsening decay of historically important gems of Liverpool city centre”.
