UK: The Halston, an aparthotel in Carlisle, has chosen Carlisle Youth Zone as its charity of the year.
Carlisle Youth Zone CYZ has become the Halston’s charity of the year and will be the sole beneficiary of the aparthotel’s upcoming fifth birthday party on July 12.
Halston director Dominique Harrison has been involved with projects at the youth zone over the years. She said: “It is a milestone for us. Because we have been open for five years we wanted to do something special to mark that occasion but also using that opportunity to support the youth zone. With the campaign, every time we read those stories – it’s difficult to put into words – we were inspired by what is going on there and we want to help in what ever way we can. It’s all independently funded so I know how vital it is, any fundraising that can be done. All the work and what they offer at the youth zone is just fantastic. It is a real credit to Lynsey and her team that they have managed to keep it going so long but to maintain that it needs support.”
Lynsey Buckle, development manager at CYZ, added: “From our point of view, since the campaign, it has given us an opportunity to have more and more conversations with other people. It even surprises me sometimes the breadth of what we do. You don’t realise these things when you are in the middle of it. The conversations have been going on all around the city. I think people are getting to know the youth zone better and value what it has to offer. It still surprises me how touched people are with the work we are doing.”
Harrison explained that suppliers have also backed the event and are donating to ensure more proceeds can go towards the charity.
The party, which will feature live music, an auction and circus-themed acts, will also mark the official opening of the Halston’s new garden terrace.</p
