UK: Blagden Property has submitted plans to transform an Edinburgh city centre language school into a seven-bed aparthotel.
The school, called the Wallace Tutorial College on George IV Bridge, was established in the 1970s. Proposed plans call for a seven-unit aparthotel conversion with living and kitchen facilities.
The first floor of the building would operate as a hotel whilst floors two and three would remain as residential and short-term let use.
Redeveloping the school has been described as “major” due to significant costs associated with electrical and additional building services that are in need of updating.
A statement read: “In relation to the application for 12 George IV Bridge, the proposed accommodation is as follows: seven apartments, primarily studio apartments with queen-sized bed, shower room/WC and kitchenette with small sitting/ dining space. One apartment operates as a family room, with two separate bedrooms.
“The facility will be managed remotely from a centralised office facility in Edinburgh. Service staff will assist with booking, servicing and resident requirements from a constantly attended email and phone system. The accommodation will also be attended daily for cleaning and servicing requirements.
”Operator booking policies will specifically prohibit “party flat” type bookings and by having close-contact with residents and neighbours alike, this will resolve any issues arising and minimise any anti-social behaviour and associated impact.”
