Europe: Parent company TFE Hotels has set the goal for all 18 Adina Hotels in Europe to achieve Green Key certification in 2025.
Adina Hotels in Nuremberg, Frankfurt Westend and Cologne were the first in Germany to achieve Green Key in October 2024. A further six hotels will be certified in December this year, and the remaining hotels will prepare for Green Key certification by the beginning of 2025.
Green Key is a global certification programme supported by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and international environmental association Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The certification requires compliance within areas of energy consumption, water management, waste management, cleaning standards and sustainability education.
Matthias Niemeyer, managing director of Adina Hotels Europe, said: “In preparation for the certification, we have made extensive changes in all our Adina Hotels. Among other things, we have started the process of analysing the entire supply chain and establishing more sustainable alternatives. Initial measures have been implemented: only eco-certified products are used for the daily cleaning work at Adina Hotels, and all hotels and the company headquarters in Berlin use 100 per cent green electricity. We also offer our guests a virtually plastic-free breakfast buffet.
“In addition to these practical measures, the establishment of so-called ‘Green Teams’ in all Adina hotels has strengthened cooperation and a sense of responsibility among employees. These teams promote sustainable initiatives and implement projects independently, in line with Adina’s philosophy, which relies on the motivation and commitment of the teams: We empower our people to drive small projects and initiatives with big impact,” he added.
The Adina brand comprises 40 Adina Apartment Hotels and Adina Serviced Apartments in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and in Europe.
