UK: In a second public consultation, plans have been updated for the first serviced apartment project Radisson will operate in the UK, located in Glasgow.Â
The project, announced last year, would replace a collection of buildings located on the corner of 90-96 Maxwell Street and 40 Fox street, formerly home to the Fury Murry’s nightclub.
During the first consultation period between February and March 2024, 89 per cent of respondents supported the redevelopment. 81 per cent voted for the proposed use as hotel and serviced apartments as “good”.
The proposals, designed by Haus, would include luxury studios and one-bedroom apartments, as well as a rooftop lounge and restaurant, a ground floor restaurant, a gym, and meeting space.
In a public consultation this week, presented by the developers Regent Property Glasgow, one of the major updates to the plans includes the decision to not retain the facade of 90 Maxwell Street. Following an assessment by Historic Environment Scotland, the condition of the existing fabric was found to “not present the opportunity to be meaningfully repaired and integrated into a proposed development”.
Feedback is being collected until 13 March 2025, which will be reviewed before submitting a planning application to Glasgow City Council.
Jay Singh, director of Regent Property Glasgow, said: “We are keen to invest in Glasgow and see the city move forward with alternative thriving hospitality developments, supporting the council’s ambition to bring greater leisure and residential amenities to the city centre. To have such a significant brand as Radisson on board, who also recognises the benefits of the city, is a huge opportunity. Our proposals complement and offer an exciting development of Glasgow City Council’s St Enoch District Regeneration Framework and will enliven this currently neglected location.”
Adela Cristea, vice president of business development for the UK, Ireland and Nordics at Radisson, said: “Radisson Hotel & Serviced Apartments Glasgow will perfectly complement our award-winning Radisson RED and Radisson Blu properties, both of which are established, great brand representations in this amazing city. This new development will provide more choice for guests, with a home from home experience within the luxury of a Radisson environment.”
