Marriott TownePlace Suites breaks ground in De Pere
Reading Time: < 1 minute

US: Construction has begun at Marriott TownePlace Suites extended stay hotel in downtown De Pere, Wisconsin, after the building sat vacant for six years.

The five-storey, 90-room property is part of a larger development plan to expand the Broadway district north and boost tourism in the area. The larger project includes a 60-unit apartment complex and the city’s first parking ramp, also under construction.

All three new buildings are expected to be completed next summer.

The TownePlace Suites property will occupy a former Shopko –  a department stores chain based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, which filed for bankruptcy in June 2019 and closed all its stores. Demolition started in 2023.

David Vander Bloomen, De Pere area chamber president and CEO said: “From a business standpoint, our goal is to get people here. And to shop here, to eat here, to work here. This is an extended stay model, so if there’s a traveling IT person coming to help a local business, they now have a place to stay.”

James Boyd, De Pere mayor said: “This area has got great tourism and great tourism needs, and with that you have demands for places for people to stay. So this will enhance tourism opportunities for people to stay not just in De Pere but in the entire region.”
