Global: American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) integration that allows Egencia users to search, book and manage business travel through Anthropic’s AI assistant, Claude.
The new Egencia AI connector uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) technology to let travellers book flights and hotels via Claude while remaining within their company’s managed travel programme and travel policies.
The integration also features the ability to have Claude check in with their calendar, make travel plans for future appointments, and assist in booking appointments that meet the company’s travel policies.
The connector will be available for Egencia customers in Q3 2026.
Evan Konwiser, chief product and strategy officer at Amex GBT, said: “The conversation in our industry is shifting from connecting systems to connecting intelligence – from APIs to AI agents that can reason, act and transact with trust. With our Egencia AI connector in Claude, an employee or an enterprise AI agent can now search, book and manage air and hotel for a traveller within policy.”
Amex GBT said the launch is the first use of its internally developed AI agent-to-agent architecture, which allows travel management services to connect directly with AI platforms.
Additionally, the company revealed that it is scheduled to scale Egencia’s conversational AI into Google Chat later this August, and expand to more customers by the end of 2026. It is also putting an AI pilot to the test in its Neo travel and expense platform for customers of the Microsoft Teams app.
