Australia: Community housing provider Foundation Housing Limited has been appointed by The Cook Government to manage the former Fraser Suites complex in East Perth.
The serviced apartment complex in the Queens Riverside precinct of East Perth was recently acquired by the government for $105 million.
Approximately 70 per cent of the building’s 236 units will be allocated towards affordable housing with the remainder allocated towards social housing.
The first stage of refurbishment works has been completed with the second stage works to commence soon.
Foundation Housing has begun to vet prospective tenants, onboard service contractors, and establish operational and tenancy management arrangements. The organisation will be responsible for the ongoing management of the complex, including property maintenance, tenant services, and community wellbeing initiatives.
Residents are expected to begin moving in through a staged occupancy program this month, supported by structured tenancy selection and unit allocation processes.
Additionally, the government has also signed a commercial lease with Volunteering WA to activate two commercial suites on the lower floors. The government expects to sign more commercial leases soon.
John Carey, housing and works minister for the Cook Government, said: The appointment of Foundation Housing is a significant milestone in transforming the former Fraser Suites into much-needed social and affordable housing for Western Australians. It will deliver well-located homes for key workers and people on the social housing waiting list.
“It is part of our $6.3 billion housing and homelessness spend since 2021 to accelerate housing and land supply, and to support more Western Australians into secure housing. This project will also help activate the east end of the city, and it’s great to see the first commercial lease signed with Volunteering WA.”
