UK: Planning officials will this week decide whether controversial plans for a £30million tourism development in Balloch will go ahead.
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority has announced a report and recommendation on Flamingo Land’s proposals will be published on Thursday.
It is a major step in the progress of the application but the authority has stressed that it is a recommendation only. The final decision will lie with the board at a public meeting at Alexandria Parish Church on Tuesday, September 24.
More than 50,000 people have lodged objections to the planning application, jointly submitted by Flamingo Land and Scottish Enterprise.
If approved, the holiday park at West Riverside and Woodbank House would include a variety of family accommodation facilities, including a 60-bedroom aparthotel, 32-bedroom budget accommodation, 131 self-catering units, six private houses and 15 apartments.
In a statement, the park authority said: “We can now confirm that we intend to publish the report outlining the director of rural development and planning’s recommendation to the board on the proposed development on our website on Thursday, September 5. This is two full working weeks before the hearing, considerably more than would normally be the case because we appreciate the significant public interest in this complex major application.
