UK: Chester-based developer and operator St David Aparthotels has submitted plans to the City of York Council to convert a building at 24 Gillygate into a seven-unit aparthotel.

The plans could see the ground floor space retained and marketed for commercial use, with the rear ground floor converted to house two studio apartments, housekeeping storage, laundry facilities and vending machines.

Up on the first floor, which had previously housed residential flats, two studio apartments and one duplex will be fitted. A further two studio apartments would be added to the second floor roof space.

Each apartment will feature a kitchen and bathroom. Documents stated there will be “no bar, restaurant or public floorspace” and that “day-to-day activity is staff-free, supported by a central office and a 24-hour contact number for emergencies and assistance”.

The council is due to make a decision on the application by Tuesday 16 December 2025.
