UK: Plans to convert a former Wilko store in Chesterfield into a 70-bed aparthotel are set to be given the green light by Chesterfield District Council.
J.B.S.L. Holdings Ltd submitted planning for the site, located at 1A Vicar Lane, in September 2025.Â
According to planning documents, the developer plans to add a two-storey roof extension on top of the existing building, with the ground floor available for retail.
Nine apartments would be located on the ground floor, 21 on the first floor, and 20 on the second and third floor.
Two retail units will be retained on the ground floor, alongside two retail units on the lower ground floor with the addition of a gym, business centre, and a new stairwell structure.
A report by council officers recommending approval stated: “The proposed aparthotel will bring a significant number of accommodation units to Chesterfield town centre’s historic core, offering a convenient and premium option for both tourists wishing to stay in a central location near the Peak District National Park, and key workers requiring quality accommodation for extended periods. There is a demonstrated demand for this dual offering in the heart of the town centre which our scheme seeks to address through a carefully designed mixed-use approach.”
